NP: Secret Machines, Ten Silver Drops
Andrew Sullivan thinks the Ron Paul phenomenon is for real. Ana Marie Cox is not so sure. I'm leaning towards the latter point of view, mostly because this looks awfully familiar. Howard Dean seemed to have a similar air about him back before anyone actually started casting votes, scream or no scream.
This initially was the case with Obama, but it's clearly less so with him now. With a candidate that captures the imagination the way Paul has, the danger is that said candidate stays in the imagination, and on the Internet, and not in the voting booth. At some point you have to transcend the inherent sedentary lifestyle of your Internet supporters, and while you might point to the ubiquity of Paul supporters in public places, I'm still not so sure.
