Winning The Undecideds

NP: Pandora

What does it mean that Hillary Clinton has a wide lead over Barack Obama in national polls, but is in a statistical dead heat in Iowa and is losing ground in New Hampshire? I can think of two fairly obvious answers. First, Obama is winning over people who were either undecided or were only giving soft support to another candidate. Second, and I saw a blog post on this somewhere but forgot where, Obama is trying to expand the primary pool to a larger audience than is getting polled.

All of this speaks to the obvious deficiencies in this whole "Hillary is the presumptive nominee" horseshit. Hillary has the best brand recognition right now, before any votes are cast and before anyone other than Iowa, New Hampshire and the media are engaged in the contest. Big deal.
