NP: Garbage, beautifulgarbage
While my desktop PC is off getting looked at by people smarter about these things than I am, I can't help but feel that there's a hole in my life where all my amateur computer diagnosis was going for the last six or nine months.
Originally, I had pulled out my old PC in order to get rid of it, but then it so happened that the best candidate for donation seemed kind of flaky to the point where I wasn't sure about them anymore, so I decided to try to resurrect the beast myself first. This way, if I were to donate it, I could wipe all the hard disks first. Now I'm tempted to try to turn it into a media server or a print server or something.
Of course, the first step in any of this would be to get it to actually boot up consistently, but I figured out that I had a master/slave problem with the one working optical drive, and now things seem both hunky and dory.
The next trick will be figuring out where to actually put it. The dining room table doesn't seem like a good long-term solution.
