Ben Gordon Is No Longer Killing The Bulls

NP: Robbie Williams, The Ego Has Landed

In the wake of Scott Skiles getting canned as head coach of the Bulls, Jim Boylan replaced Ben Gordon with Chris Duhon in the starting lineup -- exactly what I said they should have done three weeks ago. Now Gordon is scoring big numbers again, and the Bulls were a last-second shot away from three wins in a row for what I think would have been the first time all season.

If only Skiles read this blog, he might still be employed.

Gordon just seems to be the wrong guy to establish the offensive tempo of the game. He forces too much too early, and if we totally read too much into these three games, his lack of rhythm rippled through everybody. Hinrich had to pick up sloppy seconds on shot selection, Ben Wallace wasn't getting the touches on the post, and the whole offense was like those Visa commercials when the one guy tries to pay with cash.

This is why I like Duhon. He executes the offense better, and that gets the rhythm flowing. Gordon can then come in and ride that wave, and that's something he does extremely well. Whether his ego allows him to accept that role is another matter, and should make the rest of the season interesting.
