NP: Elvis Costello & The Imposters, Momofuku
Even the mainstream media are compelled to point out how slash-and-burn politics don't hold up when your object of scorn simply owns up to a mistake as a mistake. The key is at the bottom:
The RNC appeared to temper its condemnation after Obama's clarification. Initially, RNC spokesman Alex Conant blasted "Barack Obama's dubious claim" as "inconsistent with world history.""Obama's frequent exaggerations and outright distortions raise questions about his judgment and his readiness to lead as commander in chief," Conant said yesterday afternoon.
By evening, his tone had changed.
"At times it appears that Barack Obama inaccurately recalls his own history and American history, so it's important that we point to the facts. In this case, we're happy to see that he took the time to set the record straight," Conant said.
I'll admit that I really, truly believe that my Senator can rise above this kind of noise by doing exactly what he's doing. And it's the exact opposite of what I perceive as one of Hillary Clinton's biggest problems.
And a Daily Dish reader (I presume) points out that, by focusing on the one part of the story that was wrong, the right is giving play to the rest of the story, which actually paints Obama in a pretty positive light. That was always the slight silver lining of the Reverand Wright stuff -- that all this talk of Obama's very Christian pastor would end up helping dispel the "Obama is a Muslim" whispering campaign.
