NP: Switzerland vs. Portugal
A couple of days ago, I complained about just how blatantly partisan Countdown with Keith Olbermann got in its coverage of the presidential race.
Well, I also posted a comment to the show's blog entry for that day's broadcast, restating what I said here. Namely, that I thought it was odd that they retired the "Keith number" in reporting their poll results, and that the outright dismissal of any interpretation of McCain's comments other than their own seemed a bit dubious.
Now, I'll allow for the possibility that I somehow didn't conform to their rules for posting comments, but I gave my name, my location and my e-mail address, and my comments were clearly relevant to the broadcast and did not attack -- or even mention -- any other comments on the page. And yet, it didn't get approved. So, unless it somehow got stuck in transmission, the powers that be saw it unfit for general consumption.
I've defended the show as being critical of the current style of politics in Washington rather than being overtly partisan, but this, quite frankly, is the kind of dissent-squelching bullshit that I'd expect more from the right than from the emerging bastion of speaking truth to power. I'm pretty severely disappointed. I'm not some kind of right-wing nutjob spewing bile here. I'm a left-leaning independent who has been recommending this show to anyone who will listen, and if they can't take criticism from the likes of me, they're going to be in trouble in the long run.
