Travel Notes

NP: shuffle songs, at least as long as the battery holds out

Trying to make lemonade out of lemons here at LaGuardia. They originally wanted me to wait a day for a flight after mine was canceled, but a little persistence got me on a later flight back to Chicago this afternoon. And then $50 got me a "day pass" into the Admirals Club at the airport, where the folks at the desk work a bit harder to fix things than your normal gate agent. Plus, there's free Wi-Fi. Extremely slow Wi-Fi, but I don't want to quibble.

Seen in transit: Former Daily Show correspondent Mo Rocca letting everyone pass him in line at the gate while he charged his phone, and a guy who looked suspiciously like the lead singer from Maximo Park.

And while tourist guides make the Hotel Chelsea sound like a cool, artsy place with a ton of old-school charm and character, it's a terrible place to stay in the summer. It definitely has character, but it also does not have air conditioning. At least my room didn't. Between this and the poorly informed hostel choice in London (and that last hotel in Germany two summers ago, for that matter), I really need to work on my evaluation process for accommodations while traveling. Clearly, I suck at it.
