I think what I like most about these posts is that Nate clearly respects that the numbers themselves are non-partisan, despite his own political leanings.

This can all be ferreted out via regression analysis, taking the factors I describe above as the independent variables, and Obama's performance vis-à-vis his polls as the dependent variable. The R-squared on this regression is .72, which is quite high -- it means that it was rather predictable when the polls were wrong, and in which direction.

This may simply be a feeling of intellectual superiority because I know exactly what he's talking about -- it's like getting all the references in a Dennis Miller joke from back when he was funny -- but really, it's the kind of stuff I do all day (some days, anyway), and it's nice to see it elevated to such important national events.
