NP: Allan Holdsworth, Metal Fatigue
I don't know if I ever said it out loud, but I've been a big fan of both Howard Dean's and Barack Obama's efforts to buck the conventional, micro-targeted wisdom of the Democratic Party and broaden their reach past traditional Democratic-leaning states and battlegrounds. It just struck me as solid, long-term thinking in an arena where long-term thinking is almost always abandoned for quick fixes. And now it seems to be paying off, big-time.
It's hard to say how much of an effect this strategy has had, but it's one of a confluence of factors that have affected this presidential race in a major way.
