Seriously, I don't know why puns get such a bad rap. Punning strikes me as an early stage of more advanced wit, so while I might concede that if that's as far as you get, it represents some sort of arrested development of your advanced linguistic skills, but the practice in and of itself gets more scorn that I think it deserves. I think it's a conspiracy among AI researchers, because they trip up their programming.
