NP: Everon vs. Manchester City
ABC News has a pretty good rundown from the Associated Press of what's transpired in the health care bill negotiations between the House and the Senate, although whether or not this comes to pass may now hinge on the special election to replace the late Ted Kennedy in Massachusetts.
At least that's what the media narrative is right now. There's not a lot of precedent for gauging turnout in a special election, so while some of the discounting of polls that show increasing support for Republican Scott Brown from the left may be wishful thinking, the margin of error may be great.
I haven't been reading much except the gnashing of teeth over the possibility that the drive to pass health care reform gets fumbled on the one-yard line, along with some healthy disdain for the Democratic establishment from Andrew Sullivan. In that first link, Josh Marshall talks about the possibility of the House just passing the Senate bill, but I have to wonder if another option is that Obama might try to force something to happen Monday or Tuesday, before the special election is done and dusted. I'm not sure what sort of procedural hurdles would need to be overcome in that time, but I have to imagine that the White House is acutely aware of the threat of losing the supermajority at this juncture.
