Heir Apparent?

NP: Steps Ahead, Modern Times

So far, most of the conversation I've seen about Evan Bayh retiring has focused on the big-picture implications of the Democrats and control of the Senate, but now Talking Points Memo digs a bit deeper on the timing of the announcement. I'm not one for coincidence or randomness in politics, so my guess is going to be that this is a concerted effort for the Democratic Party in Indiana to hand-pick their candidate for the now-open seat. This is, of course, only a guess, so if you lose money in Vegas betting on why a Senator made an announcement to run again -- I'm sure you can find a line on it somewhere -- don't hold me responsible if you lose.
