An argument for piracy

Okay, this spot is probably going to wind up being an ongoing referendum on music and the Internet. Lots and lots going on since last time, including a high-profile "awareness" campaign by the RIAA with the likes of Britney Spears decrying file-swapping as stealing, but what piqued my interest is this article. If you don't know who Diane Warren is, she's responsible for some of the most over-the-top, melodramatic and schlocky ballads in all of music history, as well as the ultra-sappy theme from the new Star Trek series. She is villified by music critics across the globe. I think that, by saying music piracy might stop the next Diane Warren from getting started, she may be inadvertantly making the best case for it that I've seen anywhere.
