Following up on a couple of early pieces in this space...
Kudos to Wired Magazine for answering my question about shady statistics on the part of the RIAA. In their October issue, Rebecca Harper points out that the number of new releases has dipped 14% since 1999, which adds a whole heck of a lot of context to the crying about sales. For a one-page summary, it's chock-full of interesting statistical tidbits.
And it looks like I was right about WZZN, as a friend who is "in the know" verified that they are, in fact, in the midst of a format shift toward the heavier sound of the old 103.5. They're clearly going after a more male demographic, while Q101 is reportedly trying to skew more female. Both of these moves seem at odds with the stations' respective morning shows, not to mention the histories of their program directors. I would not be surprised to see more changes regarding the former.
