I don't know what to make of this, but I've heard Herbie Hancock's eighties foray into electronica, "Rock It," more times in the past month than I have in the last, oh, I don't know, fifteen years? There's definitely a more concerted 80s renaissance going on, I think. Both last night (the third or so occurence of "it" being "rocked" in recent memory) and Friday, my bar choices had some serious retro going on. I may need to make some calls about the acoustic set.
With regard to Herbie, it pains me to admit that I knew him as the guy who released "Rock It" for quite some time before I knew him as the guy whose fantastic harmonic inventions on the piano graced countless releases from Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter and the like.
If you haven't heard it, pick up the one-CD distillation of the Miles Davis Live at the Plugged Nickel box set for some vintage Herbie. I'd say buy the whole box set, but that's a lot of coin, despite the quality.
