Chris Martin is everywhere. Coolfer rounded up a bunch of the weekend blitz, including the Jon Pareles meditation I mentioned earlier. The best line, however, is in the comments, where somebody responded to the Philadephia Enquirer's postulation that "Coldplay...is like Radiohead freed from paranoia" with "without the paranoid, you're just left with the android."
The ubiquity of the promotion of X&Y even got the attention of the editors at the New York Times, who opined today about how the music industry is way too fixated on blockbusters. Can't say I disagree, but I also can't see how that's different than the current state of the movie business. The more interesting question then becomes, who's going to be the Miramax that reintroduces the smaller players?
I haven't gotten all the way through the album yet, an occupational hazard of having a day job that requires some degree of concentration, but it sounds eminently inoffensive. I'm more inclined to dig into the new Oasis to see how I really feel about that one, for now.
