Okay, I'm really, really digging both the Team Sleep record and the two Adrian Belew records that have been released this year. Like, making a case for top ten list digging.
Team Sleep is pretty much what you'd expect from Deftones singer Chino Moreno's effort to be Massive Attack, because it starts atmospheric, then morphs into this super-chaotic soup that would be hard rock if the guitars and drums weren't so compressed and sort of low in the mix. It's pretty damn cool.
As for Belew, he's gotten away from the more purely Beatles-esque period and reintroduced the weirdness that marked his earlier albums. Of course, the pop songwriter still lies within, so we get strong tunes that are just not quite normal, and that's fine by me. The sound is much more reminscent of eighties Crimson than the more recent vintages the guitarist has been involved with.
