Digital Rights and Wrongs

It may not seem like much, but Yahoo! selling a downloadable track in MP3 format could be a huge development in the online music space. Granted, it's only one track, but there could be a certain amount of irony if Apple -- who is largely responsible for the explosion of the digital music space in the first place -- forces the rest of the market to abandon Digital Rights Management entirely by insisting on a proprietary DRM format for the iPod.

Of course, EMusic has been selling unprotected MP3s all along. This could be the final validation of their original business model, ten years or so after the fact.
