So, Genesis is getting back together again. Sort of. As Billboard describes it, the "classic trio lineup" of Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks is reuniting for a tour.
Put aside for a moment that, this being a tour with no immediate plans to record, the band is actually a quintet, augmented as usual by Daryl Stuermer and Chester Thompson. I want to quibble about this notion of the "classic" trio. There was only one other trio version of the band at all, and that was with that singer that nobody will ever remember. I think his name might have been Ray.
So if "classic" is modifying "trio," it's not exactly a tough call. If it's arguing a classic lineup that happens to be a trio, well then that's just wrong. The most classic lineup is with Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett, and on this there can be no debate. "Turn It On Again" is a nice song and all, but it's no "Watcher Of The Skies."
Thus ends the nerdy prog-rock rambling for today.
And yeah, it works better if you read this in the voice of the Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons.
