The Sun-Times is reporting on some new establishments up on Morse Avenue, including "a national showplace for the top names in jazz, blues, country, old-time, Irish and bluegrass music, along with local, homegrown talent."
I'm intrigued because of the words "national" and "jazz" in that sentence, given the recent demise of the Jazz Showcase. My gut is that the mission statement as presented above is a bit too sprawling, and a tighter musical focus -- particularly on the jazz and blues side -- might work given that particular hole in the landscape. Then again, you don't have much of anything that far north anymore other than neighboring Morseland -- where a particularly awesome rendition of "The Spirit of Radio" was once witnessed -- so maybe the wider variety would better serve the neighborhood.
