Lost in the shuffle of recreating all the MP3s of my CD collection after accidentally nuking my external drive back in April was the fact that I hadn't actually finished ripping everything when it happened. So when I declared victory in making up all the lost ground, I sort of forgot that I still had some work to do, as I was only somewhere in the late Ts.
If you're wondering how I figured that one out, I had a totally random craving to listen to Thunder Seven from Triumph, and was surprised not to find it in iTunes, or Winamp, or whatever I was using at the time. And, incidentally, ripping that CD was what clued me in that my optical drive was toast. Still don't know if any other disks met the same fate.
Now, with John Zorn's Naked City humming away underneath my fingertips, I'm pretty much done. I did consciously skip some of the disks I inherited from RollingStone.com, on the principle that I didn't really care too much about having them right at hand. And I'm running without a backup until I get my main machine back, so there's always some set of circumstances where I'll have to do all of this again.
And I realize that there's that link over there to a listing of said CD collection, but it hasn't really been kept up to date, and I only made it about halfway through the project where I create a separate field for sorting that accounts for last names and "the."
