Well, that makes more sense. Coolfer returns from his holiday and actually reads the legal brief that set off the whole "the RIAA thinks just ripping your own CDs is piracy" panic, pointing out that this was, in fact, a hysterical overreaction that missed the real issue. The point was, apparently, that they were saved to a shared drive, and therefore "distributed" illegally. The Washington Post article didn't mention that. Coolfer also wonders aloud about the effect the incorrect story will have on the debate, as he (and I) suspect that corrections and clarifications on all the blogs that screamed about it won't be forthcoming.
It's amazing that the quality blogs like Coolfer are always getting it so right, while the so-called mainstream media F's it up so consistently...
