So "Seven Days" worked pretty well for me at Vaughan's last night. "St. Augustine In Hell" not quite so much, as the vocal melody in the chorus is kind of hard to find at first, and there's something else I can do in the first half of the verse instead of just sitting on the Am7 chord. Some of the changes in that tune are just really sweet, though -- the Am7 / Eb7 / Dm7 / Eb7 / Am7 for the verse (even if I can't fret that Eb7 chord cleanly every time), and then the Cm to Abmaj7 that starts the chorus. I could have taken a whack at "Love Is Stronger Than Justice," but no one was so enamored with my mid-period Sting renaissance for me to keep it going any further.
I turned instead to a couple other strong recent additions to the book: "I Talk To The Wind" from King Crimson and "Major Tom (Coming Home)" from Peter Schilling. I wasn't sure I could hit all the notes in the latter, but save for the very last bit, it's totally in my range.
Yeah, the Eb7 chord sucks in any form, but that's why I just break down and play it barred at the fourth fret with no little finger, IFYKWIM.
