So it would seem that both Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot loved the Flight of the Conchords show, and it's brought out their inner comedy writers in exactly the same part of the review. Here's Jim, with emphasis added for the one joke between the two of them:
But at their sold-out show at the Chicago Theatre Wednesday night, musician/comedian Bret McKenzie and comedian/musician Jemaine Clement not only confirmed that they're the most wicked and spot-on rock 'n' roll parody since Spinal Tap, but the best made-for-TV rock band since the Banana Splits, or maybe even the Monkees before them.
And then Greg:
Jemaine Clement (black glasses, baritone vocals) and Bret McKenzie (scruffy beard, tenor vocals) make the most of such self-deprecating scenarios.
Now I'm curious to see reviews from other papers in other markets, to see if either every music critic thinks they're funny in exactly the same way, or if maybe the band is sending subliminal messages to them.
