After careful consideration, I declare Brent DiCrescenzo of Time Out Chicago the best music writer in this fair city. My main evidence is his pitch-perfect snark in describing nearly every single musical act from Lollapalooza's Saturday edition. Some highlights:

"Witchcraft sounds like Sabbath, but in the way that the fake band in Almost Famous, Stillwater, sounds like Led Zeppelin. Which means it sounds like Rainbow. But that doesn’t look as cool on a press release."

"Power-poppers The Postelles close with a tune that sounds suspiciously like "Lust For Life" as played by the Strokes. So, uh, just like the Strokes then."

"I catch the last song of Okkervil River and find difficulty in trying to describe yet another rootsy indie band with fiddles and shit."

What I like most about his writing -- and I've said this before -- is that he still does a good job of actually describing whatever the hell he's being pithy about. And then he'll turn around and post a pretty good take on the 2008 political ramifications of Rage Against The Machine. And then deliver a brutal takedown of G. Love (but at least sparing the Special Sauce, who didn't do anything to deserve such scorn).

Sorry Jim, sorry Greg, but you've got some serious competition.
