Wait, what?

Pick of the week
Everything on Friday night is good. Some still have tickets available.

list.in.to.COZ
Just Wednesday office hours at The Globe this week.

Recap
I'm pretty sure I didn't go see anything last week, but it's been a bit of a drinky night, so I can't say for sure. The Diver show on Saturday definitely happened.

4.18   monday
Robbie Fulks with Nora O'Connor (Hideout)   FRIENDS OF COZ!
They're recreating some record or other this week, but I'd have to go to Facebook to look it up, and I don't feel like it. Plus, it was, you know, yesterday. The point is that Fulks is doing all sorts of interesting things with the residency.

4.19   tuesday
Open Jam (Vaughan's)   FRIENDS OF COZ!
For the umpteenth time, I'm out of town on business for the open jam, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't go and say hi to Tony.

M13 (Quenchers)   FRIENDS OF COZ!
Also for the umpteenth time, I'm really curious to see how they fit a big band in this place. It doesn't seem very big.

4.20   wednesday
Sing Along With Coz (The Globe Pub)   COZ SINGS!
If all goes to plan, I will land at O'Hare with at least a half hour to spare in order to make it on time for the ceremonial playing to an empty room.

Biffy Clyro with The Revolution One, The Noise FM (Double Door)
I finally listened to this Scottish trio today, and the closest comparison I could come up with was something sorta Foo Fighter-ish. One of my Fire fan friends is a huge fan, though.

Crocodiles with The Fresh and Onlys, Young Prisms (Lincoln Hall)
And I think another Fire fan friend was talking this band up recently, but I don't remember for sure.

4.21   thursday
Low with Gaberdine (Lincoln Hall)
The slowcore band from Minnesota that I get confused with Sebadoh for some reason.

Counting Crows (House of Blues)   SOLD OUT!
So if you picked these guys to end up bigger than contemporary ornithological rockers The Black Crowes, would you now have to, oh, I don't know...eat crow?

Budos Band with Charles Bradley (Subterranean)
A ten- to thirteen- person "Afro-soul" band is okay in my book.

Via Audio with Jamaica, Black Light Saints (Schubas)
I feel like I've mentioned this Brooklyn band (by way of Berklee College of Music) many, many times on the strength of maybe one song that ended up on my iPod. Still, it's better than nothing.

4.22   friday
TV On The Radio with Glasser (Metro)   SOLD OUT!
I dawdled on tickets because I knew I'd be seeing these guys at Pitchfork, but still had a bit of an "oops" moment when I saw it had sold out. The new record is really good, so if you've got an extra, let me know.

Chris Cornell with William Elliot Whitmore (The Vic)   SOLD OUT!
This one I just spaced when it went on sale. The Soundgarden frontman is doing an acoustic tour that spans all sorts of bands and projects. If the "Scream" songs sound good on acoustic, then my opinion of Timbaland is going to be even lower.

Arcade Fire with The National (UIC Pavilion)   SOLD OUT!
It's funny how your information bubble can manifest itself in strange ways -- after they won at the Grammys, I was actually taken aback by the notion that lots of people hadn't heard of the Canadian indie darlings. First of three (non-consecutive) sold out nights.

Eleventh Dream Day with The 1900s (Lincoln Hall)
Interesting that they're playing the same night as Arcade Fire, because in a lot of ways, I think bands like Eleventh Dream Day invented indie rock as we know it today, back in the early nineties.

AM Taxi with Greek Fire (Cubby Bear Wrigleyville)
Granted, they're still mostly just a local band, but I feel like their Wikipedia page should at least mention that they're 3/5 of Lucky Boys Confusion.

Jonathan Coulton with Paul and Storm (Park West)
If no one has coined the sub-genre "nerd folk," I'm doing it now. Suffice it to say, there's a certain subset of folks who find Coulton's choice of topics to sing about more hiliarous than others.

4.23   saturday
Madina Lake with Super Happy Fun Club, Static Summer, Stay Golden (Metro)   FRIENDS OF COZ!
This is, I believe, the first show since bassist Matthew Leone was brutally beaten after trying to intervene in a domestic dispute, so I suspect it's going to be a pretty emotional night.

Duran Duran (House of Blues)
Back in high school, it was the Rush fans pitted against the Duranies. Last week, Rush played the 20,000-seat United Center, while this week, Duran Duran supports their Mark Ronson-produced album at the House of Blues, capacity somewhere south of 2,000. I'm just saying we won.

4.24   sunday
Arcade Fire with The National (UIC Pavilion)   SOLD OUT!
See Friday's listing.
