In which I start off thinking I'll do one of those "seven words or less" things, and subsequently decide to become more verbose. Also, I missed Monday again. Sorry about that.
Pick of the week
The big draws this week are obviously Eddie Vedder (Tuesday and Wednesday at the Chicago Theatre) and Ben Harper (Thursday and Friday at The Vic), so get thee to Craigslist or StubHub if those appeal to you. Otherwise, George Clinton and P-Funk (Friday at Arie Crown) at a vaguely South Side venue could be something, and Larry Coryell (Thursday through Sunday at the Jazz Showcase) is a solid, solid jazz choice.

Lots of acoustic stuff this week, with regular office hours tonight (Vaughan's) and tomorrow (Globe) followed by some acoustic group or other on Saturday at Temple Bar, and then a solo evening at The Globe on Sunday.
Recap
So, I was only home for two days last week, and one of those was allegedly supposed to be an open mic. So nothing to report. Heard good things about the Peter Gabriel show, though.
6.28 tuesday
Open Jam (Vaughan's) COZ SINGS!
Been away for a bit. Back now.
Eddie Vedder with Glen Hansard (Chicago Theatre) SOLD OUT!
Have ukelele, will travel.
Kaki King (SPACE, Evanston)
Diminutive guitarist, big songs.
Stamps (Welles Park)
This L.A. band is playing a free show up in Lincoln Square, and given how nice it is outside, that alone makes it seem like a good option. 6:30pm start.
6.29 wednesday
Sing Along With Coz (The Globe Pub) COZ SINGS!
Naturally, we had that great night three weeks ago, then had a private party, and then last week the Gold Cup soccer matches. Hopefully we can pick up the momentum again.
Eddie Vedder with Glen Hansard (Chicago Theatre) SOLD OUT!
See Tuesday's listing.
6.30 thursday
Ben Harper with The Orbans (The Vic) SOLD OUT!
I'm not sure if this is an effort to play more intimate shows, or if the promoters thought he might not draw like he used to. I like the new record -- I think the Relentless 7 experience has given Harper back his rock edge.
Larry Coryell Trio (Jazz Showcase)
Every year around this time, I point out that the venerable jazz guitarist usually picks up Larry Gray and Paul Wertico to balance out his trio for this stand.
7.01 friday
George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic (Arie Crown Theatre)
I didn't realize that this place was still hosting music. Actually, I thought maybe they were tearing it down, but that might still be the case, and they just brought in the mothership as a way to tear the roof off the sucker.
Larry Coryell Trio (Jazz Showcase)
See Thursday's listing.
Ben Harper with The Orbans (The Vic) SOLD OUT!
See Thursday's listing.
7.02 saturday
Diver, or maybe The Trollops (Temple Bar) SEE COZ LIVE!
It's gotten to that point. Tony told me about a gig, and I thought it was us and Andrew, but it might actually be us and Anto, and I'm not really sure. Fortunately, neither band actually rehearses, so it's not like I'll accidentally "prepare" for one over the other.
Fucked Up with Jeff The Brotherhood (Lincoln Hall)
The marquee- and print media-unfriendly band's new record has been bending the ears of a lot of critics since coming out about a month ago, but the descriptions don't necessarily sound like something I'd like.
Larry Coryell Trio (Jazz Showcase)
See Thursday's listing.
7.03 sunday
Coz Sings! (Globe Pub) SEE COZ LIVE!
So it looks like the emerging pattern is that I play roughly one Sunday night per month, and then turn things over to Oakley and Billy. This is that one Sunday.
Larry Coryell Trio (Jazz Showcase)
See Thursday's listing.
