This would be where the witty introduction would go.
Pick of the week
Jumping out at me this week are Material Re-Issue and Rockit Girl at Lincoln Hall on Saturday and Lindsey Buckingham at The Vic on Sunday. And, of course, Men Without Hats on Saturday at the Guinness Oyster Fest.

On Saturday night, Diver does the 80s at Fado. Parachute pants optional. Other than that, regular office hours should be in effect.
Recap
Short week, business travel, no updates.
9.12 monday
Robbie Fulks (The Hideout) FRIENDS OF COZ!
A night devoted to the music of the Everly Brothers, with special guest Steve Frisbie in the role of the other brother on vocals.
Matt Pond PA with Rocky Votolato, Jeff Pianki (Lincoln Hall)
With last year's The Dark Leaves, Matt Pond and his band would probably like to shift attention away from all the guests on their previous record and onto them. To be honest, that might be a tough nut to crack.
9.13 tuesday
Open Jam (Vaughan's) COZ SINGS!
We might use this opportunity to fine-tune some of the 80s tunes for Saturday. You never know.
The Olivia Tremor Control with The Music Tapes (Bottom Lounge)
Is it me, or have all of the big Elephant 6 bands from the mid- to late-nineties come back with a vengeance?
Manu Chau with La Ventura (Congress Theater)
This is one of those artists that I think is disproportionately popular among NPR listeners, as he's multi-culti to a fault, with socio-political (and post-punk) undertones. It's like candy to them.
Braids with Pepper Rabbit, Painted Palms (Empty Bottle)
Experimental shoegazer rock from Calgary. Which makes me think that if it's as loud as, say, My Bloody Valentine or A Place To Bury Strangers, that they at least apologize afterwards. You know, because Canadians are really nice.
9.14 wednesday
Sing Along With Coz (The Globe Pub) COZ SINGS!
Why not?
9.15 thursday
Vivian Girls with Widowspeak, Nones (Empty Bottle)
If you guessed "post-punk girl band" based on the name, congratulations! So did I.
9.16 friday
Erasure with Miami Horror (Congress Theater)
One of the original synth-pop new wave bands of the late 80s, which makes this a pretty big deal if you're into that sort of thing.
Tapes 'n Tapes with Howler (Lincoln Hall)
I've mostly stayed away from the Minneapolis band after not being terribly impressed by their heavily-hyped set at Pitchfork some five years ago. Maybe they've gotten better.
9.17 saturday
DIVER (Fado Irish Pub) SEE COZ LIVE!
So Fado started having a monthly 80s night, and this month, it happens to fall on the night we're playing. Never one to shy away from a challenge, we'll be packing the set with as many 80s tunes as we can learn by then, which also means yours truly will be handling a lot more vocal duties than usual.
The Human League with Men Without Hats, The Spazmatics (Guinness Oyster Fest)
One of the last of the street festivals at Roscoe and Damen boasts a heavy 80s lineup on Saturday (after going a totally different direction on Friday with Alien Ant Farm headlining). This is the street fest where you can presumably dance if you want to, and leave your friends behind.
Madina Lake with Greek Fire, The Lifeline, Stay Golden, So Many Ways (Metro) FRIENDS OF COZ!
The Leone brothers and crew are back with a new album and a new record label after a tumultuous year that saw Matthew Leone in the news for the wrong reasons when he was put in the hospital after trying to break up a domestic incident. I expect a lot of good will in the room.
Material Re-issue with Rockit Girl (Lincoln Hall)
The surviving members of Material Issue have been getting back it more regularly this year, and now they're joined by another notable Chicago act who's been away for a while. I actually saw Rockit Girl's "final" show back in 2006, and regretted not getting on board earlier.
Secret Chiefs 3 with Fat32 (Empty Bottle)
Boasting two members of the original Mr. Bungle lineup at one point, I expected this band to be weird, but not quite as weird as the one CD I have in my collection. So I've been casting a wary eye on them ever since, and haven't listened to any newer material.
Erasure with Miami Horror (Congress Theater)
See Friday's listing.
9.18 sunday
Lindsey Buckingham (The Vic)
A quick listen to his new record has me thinking it's of a piece with 2006's Under The Skin, which I liked quite a bit.
Par Avion with Peachcake, The Fighting Yawns (Subterranean)
Nothing much to add here except that I heard this band once on a local music program on a radio station that, as of a month and a half ago, no longer exists.
