WC2006: The One That Goes "Bing"-en

DERAG HOTEL AND LIVING, NUREMBERG (12:45pm local time) -- No time to bask in the glow of the result with the reported 100,000 fans who had come to K-Town for the match, as I needed to catch what I hoped would be the same train as my traveling companions.

After a brief detour to be interviewed live on Italian TV, I retrieved my bags and got myself settled in. Entertainment was provided by some drunken Germans cheering for both their country and for their hometown club.

It was a ninety-minute trip, which gave me ample opportunity to wonder just what I would do if I got off the train in Bingen and didn't see my friends on the platform. There was no need to worry, as they emerged from the next car. This was one of those times when a bed is simply the most wonderful thing in the world.
