JOHANNISNACHT - LUDWIGSTRASSE, MAINZ (2:05pm local time) -- There are some small consolations after the match. We stopped back at the beer garden at the stadium just in time to hear the band play "Runaway" from Bon Jovi. Words could not possibly describe it. The only thing better would be a a bad German wedding band with a horn section playing "Highway To Hell" from AC/DC.
Hopefully you can make out the band photo in the picture I took. Exquisite.
Then I finally got the slice of pizza I had been craving since I saw the storefront the first day in Nuremberg, and it was exactly as good as I had hoped.
Back at the hotel, we watched Japan once again wake a sleeping monster - didn't these guys learn anything from Godzilla? - by scoring first on Brazil. Four unanswered goals later, Brazil once again looked like a contender. Meanwhile, the Aussies advance! On account of just sheer audacity, along with the fact that I like my Australian friends better than my Croatian friends, I'll be pulling for the Socceroos from here on out.
