WC2006: Zwanzig Song

MAINZ (2:00pm local time) -- Okay, so the drumming on the trip didn't really end with the U.S.-Ghana pre-game. My hosts in Mainz have two kids, and I learned when I arrived that their teenage daughter is having a surprise party for her best friend at the apartment on Saturday night. Twenty to thirty German teenagers will be in attendance.

Before fleeing for Johannisnacht in town, somehow I get persuaded to accompany a stirring reprise of "Happy Birthday To You" with the floor tom. The kids all seem to think it's cool, and it does allow for a happier end to the percussive side of the journey.
