When Tommy Soehn removed himself from consideration for the FC Dallas coaching job right after Bob Bradley took over the U.S. job, the quickest conclusion was that Soehn might move to the now-vacated Chivas USA gig. Clearly, something else was afoot, as DC United coach Peter Nowak is reportedly stepping down to become one of Bradley's assistant, with Tommy getting promoted from his assistant coach role at United.
So the domino effect from Juergen Klinsmann's rejection of the head role for US Soccer has now found its way down to MLS assistant coaching jobs. And if, as Ives speculated, Denis Hamlett somehow ends up in the Home Depot time-share for Chivas, the dominoes haven't even stopped falling.
This is undoubtedly good for U.S. Soccer, Bob Bradley, Peter Nowak and Tommy Soehn. It may be not so good for Chivas USA, DC United, and even the Fire, who may have had their eyes on Soehn if Dave Sarachan faltered early in 2007.
Of course, it's been pretty quiet over at Fire HQ, and to be honest, I would have thought that we at least would have heard whether or not Sarachan's option had been picked up by now, as his existing deal is up at the end of the year. My spidey-sense is tingling a little bit on this, although I thought I saw a Dave quote regarding the callups to the national team camp. That said, I can't find it now.
