Opening Weekend Notes: DC United at Colorado

We'll see how many of these I get through by Sunday night.

  • Julie Foudy illustrates the Blanco principle in no uncertain terms. She doesn't think Blanco is a good signing because she doesn't like him and doesn't respect him. She thinks Reyna, on the other hand, is a great signing, because she does like him and respect him.
  • Well, now we know what Agent Mahone is doing while Prison Break is on hiatus until the fall. He's coaching the Colorado Rapids.
  • Two early yellows and then two challenges in the box uncalled. Didn't get a good look at Herculez Gomez getting knocked down, but Justin Moose looked like he dove.
  • How cute. Julie Foudy is worried that Ben Olsen won't like her for saying he was acting. There's your difference between her and Wynalda, right there.
  • Pitch invasion fifteen minutes in. Nice.
  • Wow, deRoux with some horrid marking on a corner kick. He didn't keep his eye on Gomez, and covered the near post run he thought the Colorado midfielder was making, which was different from the run Gomez actually made.
  • 40th minute, and you have a tray of beer in high-def.
  • DC United just mugged a guy with no call. Totally missed the ball, and plowed over the Colorado defender.
  • "Famous Freds?" Are you fucking kidding me?
  • Emilio does my fantasy team proud in getting one back for DC.
  • DC getting their thug on after the 80-minute mark. Not something you typically see from them outside of Ben Olsen, who tries to counter by diving at the other end.
  • God, I wish one of these two would say something even remotely insightful. All Dave O'Brien can offer when Jacob Peterson enters the game is that he's blonde.
  • Is this just opening day lift for Colorado, or an upset? Or was the preseason coronation of DC United just a little premature?
