Dave is done, or so says Luis Arroyave. Despite all the injuries, I think this was inevitable given the team's current form.
The thing that strikes me, in retrospect, is that Sarachan never seemed to try to address any of the team's problems -- particularly in 2004 or this year -- through player acquisition. And no, neither Blanco nor Salas, if he comes through, really count here. I'm talking about trades within the league for incremental improvements at key positions. This doesn't mean the Mo Johnston "who can I trade this week" model is the ideal, but the team clearly had needs, but Dave stood by his draft picks and his guys, perhaps a little too much. He seemed to believe that the team was almost there, that it would just take one or two guys getting healthy, or just a little bit of tinkering with tactics, to get over the hump.
Well, the hump won. Good luck to Denis Hamlett. And I still think Dave should helm the Men's Olympic squad, now that Bob Bradley has the senior mens team full-time.
UPDATE: Just got the e-mail advisory from the front office. As my good friend Kenn asked, "what is everybody going to bitch about now?"
