The Landon Donovan Rule?

Just yesterday, The Offside Rules blog pointed out the potential for friction between David Beckham and U.S. Soccer golden boy Landon Donovan. The gist is that, under the current rules, Donovan will have to take a serious pay cut next season in order to stay in L.A., unless the Galaxy were to trade for a second Designated Player spot.

Then, as if summoned, comes the rumor that the MLS Board of Governors is considering adding a second Designated Player slot for each team! How convenient!
