This story seems legit -- it's on BBC Sport, with a link to the audio file and everything -- which makes it quite possibly the funniest thing I've heard in a long time. Maybe it will give the English at least something to laugh about with regard to Wednesday's game.
On that note, I was at an English pub down the street from me, and down 2-0, one of the owners commented that he could just see all the money the bar would have made next summer flying away. It's a lot of those sort of ancillary markets that may end up getting hurt the most, although among the bigger fish, Umbro is already saying they'll get hurt in 2008 due to lower sales of England shirts and whatnot. Has Nike signed on the dotted line already?
