Multiple sources are saying the new Fire head coach is likely to be either current assistant Denis Hamlett, former Fire assistant Mike Jeffries or current Houston assistant John Spencer.
That last choice intrigues me, for a couple of specific reasons. First, Spencer is a lot closer to being part of an MLS championship team than either of the other two. Second, as a current MLS guy, he already should have some ideas about the combine and the draft. Hamlett, or course, has this, too, but if you think the team needs a bit of a fresh start and a new direction, that experience gets slightly discounted.
As for his lack of head-coaching experience, it's not like Hamlett has much of a leg up in that regard.
Unless you lean heavily on head coaching experience, Jeffries seems like the worst choice of the three. So, naturally, he is who I expect the Fire to name as their fourth full-time head coach as soon as this week.
