Another Revolution loss, another Steve Nicol excuse:
"I guess tonight particularly new guys found out what MLS is all about," Revolution coach Steve Nicol said. "Three games in a week, you play away on a Wednesday and you're traveling all day Thursday and then you have to go again on Saturday."It's not easy and I think you saw tonight that it was a real problem for us. We didn't have the zip that we usually have. But we didn't deserve to lose the game. They came for a point and ended up getting three. Everyone was quiet in the dressing room because we know we let an opportunity slip by."
This match shows the same kind of mettle for Colorado that Chicago showed in grinding out a 1-0 road win despite getting being on their heels through most of the match, if the statistics are to be believed. You might be able to attribute that grit to Dallas, except that they were at home and had the added bonus of a first-minute goal to pad their margin of victory over New York, whose head coach said exactly the kind of things that Fire fans used to chastise Dave Sarachan for.
"I think the team showed strength of character to come back and play some good football and create some chances. If I'm honest, the first half should have been 1-1 or 2-1."
And yet, it wasn't. If I can keep motivated throughout the season, I'm going to try to keep an eye on which coaches keep insisting they're the better team in the league, despite their inability to, you know, score more goals than the other guys. It's really easy with Steve Nicol, as it tends to happen whenever he opens his Liverpudlian mouth, but I'm curious to see who else does it.
