Steven Goff is reporting that AC Milan's offer for David Beckham was only $3 million, not the $10 million that had been previously reported. I think this only goes to reinforce what I said about this yesterday, because it's not hard to imagine* that Beckham alone can generate at least $3 million in revenue for the Galaxy and for the league through ticket sales, jersey sales, sponsorships and the like in 2009. Although there are things like the Adidas contract, the ESPN deal and the Herbalife shirt sponsorship that are signed and sewn up for at least a couple of years. Anyway, even if Becks used his out clause in his contract after this season and leaves MLS nothing, $3 million in return for that one season of lost revenue isn't going to cut it. Plus whatever you save on his actual LA Galaxy salary, I guess.
* I could be wrong here, and would welcome someone with a greater knowledge of how MLS revenue breaks down to give me some math.
