A Big If, MLS Edition

Franco Panizo tries to read the tea leaves on the Fire's backline:

If the preseason match against New York was any indication of how those things have paid off and what will come for the regular season, Chicago fans can expect a defense that will constantly look different depending upon the game and situation.

Emphasis mine. And, seriously? When has a preseason MLS match ever been any indication of anything? I feel like that's quite a reach for SBI, but Ives and his merry band have always had a tendency to overstate the importance of, well, pretty much everything. Especially encounters with the team from New Jersey, who have always been afforded a primacy that they simply have not earned.

Second, a defense that will constantly look different? And this is being pitched as a feature, not a bug? Doesn't anyone remember why we had such a strong defense the last time we actually had a strong defense?
