Bowl me over

I guess this is as good a place as any for Super Bowl comments. Or, maybe Super Bowl Sunday-related comments. The game, the commercials and all the trappings were pretty much as they always are. The Terry Tate, Office Linebacker was probably my favorite ad of the bunch. Slate says that Shania Twain was actually singing live, but No Doubt wasn't playing their instruments. I thought Gwen and Co. rocked, though, regardless of when it was that they did. It was nice to see Sting rock out for once, as my last Sting experience was left wanting.

And, despite The Man Show being way below my expectations for it, I'd love to see Jimmy Kimmel Live succeed on ABC. Kimmel is a funny guy. His first show, though, had the newest entry to the late-night wars looking more nervous than a virgin on prom night. Not that I'd know anything about that. I haven't tuned in since then, but I wanted to explain the lead singer from Coldplay's message. You might have noticed that Chris Martin had "Make Trade Fair" scrawled on both his piano and his left hand. Given the events of the day, I think it's obvious that this was in reference to Tampa Bay having to give up four draft picks and eight million dollars in order to sign Super Bowl winning coach Jon Gruden away from the Raiders. ABC analyst John Madden said towards the end of the game that, with a Super Bowl trophy to show for it, this trade WAS, in fact, fair. Which Martin obviously took exception to, and used the bully pulpit of the much-hyped appearance to disagree with the noted hardware hawker on a national stage.

You're welcome. If there's anything else you'd like me to explain, just ask.
