I was going to write about redemption last week, as two of "my" shows featured characters facing up to their mistakes. First up, Buffy the Vampire Slayer saw former pseudo-bad guy Andrew finally 'fess up and admit to himself that he killed Jonathan, and that he had no excuses. It made for a a heavy ending to what had been, up to that point, a fairly light and amusing episode, with Andrew "documenting" the Slayer's fight against the First Evil. Suddenly, it stopped on a dime and went for the pathos, and pretty effectively.
Later that same night, it was Detective Vic Mackie who decided to take the fall once he realized the Mexican drug dealer he was after had him cornered on The Shield. Of course, being kicked off the force and going to jail makes for a very short-lived TV show when you're the central character, so Shane and the Strike Team stepped up and bailed Mackie out. Unfortunately, in doing so, they probably screwed Dani over more than she already was, but we'll have to wait and see.
Anyway, that's what I was going to say last week, and then this week's Angel dropped. While the show is still keeping that sorta comic book feel I may or may not have mentioned earlier, it just got a whole lot more interesting with revelations of Cordelia's badness and the return of Faith. Moreso because there are so many new characters that haven't interacted with her yet. But meanwhile, Lilah is dead, and Wesley has a heart-to-heart conversation with her lifeless corpse. Ultimately, Wes' despair seemed to be that he couldn't "save" the despicably evil lawyer. With all the redemption the week before, I can't help thinking maybe things would have been different if the episode had aired sooner.
