Dammit, I wanted to list all the silly things that happened in the season finale of 24, but as usual, I put it off. Now I've taped over the episode and can't remember everything. And it's not like I didn't enjoy it, it's just that there were some things that struck me as odd.
Like the helicopter. My roommate brought it up, but wow, was that thing quiet before it got above the wall of the Coliseum. Also, how did Jack happen to have not only a recording device, but a wireless transmitter? I guess it could have been in the CTU vehicle that I'm assuming he took when he left, and some of it could have been in Alex Hewitt's place, but still, it was a bit of a stretch.
And while I was as glad to see Mandy from season one as the next red-blooded American male, she sure did get in position quickly for a press conference that was only announced minutes before. Yes, the backup plan had been in place, and Mandy could have been lurking near the president's location for hours, but that's either dumb luck, really really good planning, or a bit of a hack.
There are ways to rationalize these, I guess, which means the holes aren't quite so deep. The fact that the show actually asks you to think about it in order to fill in your own reasons is probably a good thing, as that was always one of the aspects I liked about The X-Files, back before it sucked. But I can't help thinking there were one or two more egregious problems that I'm forgetting, and not just that Jack shaved off his beard in something like hour two, and twenty-two hours later, was barely showing a hint of stubble. Then again, I'm Italian so I typically have that ten a.m. shadow going.
Once I watch it again, I'll probably comment on the Buffy series finale, then it's going to be slim pickings for TV commentary until fall.
