I have to say, I've been pretty impressed with UPN's new series Jake 2.0. A nice cross between Alias and Spiderman, without the inexplicable superspy skills of the former, and with all the geek-hero charm of the latter. Silvio Horta, who helmed the amusing Sci-Fi original The Chronicle is behind it, and it has some of the strong dialog and interesting characterization that marked the earlier series. Also, David Greenwalt from WB's Angel (more on that later) is executive producing. I would probably go so far to say that it's been the strongest out of the gate of any series originating on UPN, seeing as how Buffy was well-established when it got to the upstart network.
The problem is that I have one TV and one VCR, and the aforementioned Angel is back this week. If you know anything about my TV habits, I'm fiercely loyal to shows that I like, to the point that I'll go down with the ship sometimes when a progam jumps the shark (Babylon 5, I'm looking at you here). And it's debateable whether Angel has lost a step anyway, although there's the obvious question as to whether Charisma Carpenter's diminishing role will offset the addition of James Marsters' Spike character from Buffy. I trust Joss Whedon, though, especially since this is his only baby on TV these days. So it's certainly his night to lose here at notabbott HQ.
All is not lost, though. I finally reinstalled my ATI drivers to the point where my PC is once again a working TV, so after freeing up a bunch of space, I can see how recording Jake to my hard drive goes. I believe the esteemed Neil Peart once said, if you have to decide between two things, choose both!
It's a damn good thing I'm not an avid fan of The West Wing, because then I'd be completely hosed. What is it about that Wednesday second-hour slot?
