I was on the fence as to whether or not I'd keep watching Rock Star: Supernova after Matt got the boot, but removing it from my series recordings on my DVR would take actually work, so I took the path of least resistance.
I'm sort of glad I did. The last two weeks have been much more interesting than that first one. I still think Matt got jobbed, but in the early going, pretty much anything can happen. The "rockers" are all still going to be nervous, and we're seeing now that it's taking a couple of weeks for some of them to get comfortable. Phil, for example, sounded really bad to me until halfway through "White Rabbit," when Jason Newsted's presence on stage seemed to trip some kind of switch for him and he opened up and stopped sucking. Magni also seemed to shed some opening jitters and start to look really sharp, to the point where I'd almost peg him as a frontrunner along with Toby, Lukas and Dilana.
Personally, my favorite is still Patrice. She's got this battle-tested sense about her, like she's played hundreds of gigs and lived out of a van for most of them, which might be because she reminds me of Ani DiFranco for some reason. But I don't think she'll win.
The initial bottom three last night were exactly right. Jenny is by far the worst of the remaining crew, Dana's on the wrong show and Ryan continues to have all the stage presence of stale bread. Zayra, who I'm fairly sure the band kept around for sheer entertainment value last week, had this cool Bjork vibe going on that was, while totally wrong for the band, the best she's done so far by a wide margin. I think Josh might be losing ground, and while I think Storm is a quality singer and performer, I don't see her as the type to mesh well with a high-profile bunch of musicians on stage with her. She demands too much attention to share the spotlight.
