Okay, so I had to look him up on IMDb before I realized that Tyler Labine, who plays Bert Wysocki on Reaper, was one of the stoner kids from the memorable "War of the Coprophages" episode of The X-Files. I'm just glad I did before this week's big-filled episode, as it gives me this sense of connectedness in the television universe. I think they even mimicked a scene from the episode with a cockroach crawling on Sock's wrist.
Granted, Labine seems to just be wearing a "What Would Jack Black Do?" bracelet as a muse, but he acts on that muse with great enthusiasm. The whole cast has resemblance issues, as Bret Harrison's Sam and New England Revolution forward Taylor Twellman seem to have been separated at birth, and Missy Peregrym as Andi is almost exactly halfway between Amanda Peet and Jennifer Garner. Which, let's be honest, is a position I've imagined myself in.
The other familiar face on the show is Ray Wise, last seen as the dickish Vice President on 24. I think any actor must love getting to play a wise-assed portrayal of the Devil, as you almost can't be too over-the-top.
Three episodes in, the show has it's charms, and it's formulas, and it's still mostly just a twentysomething slacker version of Brimstone. I was almost disappointed that the Latino kid didn't end up in the hospital this time, as it looked like that was going to turn into an "oh my god, they killed Kenny" sort of running gag.
