Fake Nostalgia

Was American Gladiators really a big deal back when it was first on television? I mean, I remember that it existed, but the tone of the TV ads is in no way consistent with my memory of the original. I've heard breathless anticipation from two different Q101 DJs now, which sets off my spidey sense in a big way.

Could just be that there's a mini-generational gap at play, and I'm just enough older than both of them for that to go into effect, but it also could be promotional dollars going to the radio station. If you see Electra driving a new car, maybe with the American Gladiators logo painted on the side, don't say I didn't warn you.
