I'm posting an awful lot about television lately, aren't I? Must be a new season.
Anyway, I was really psyched to see William Katt's name in the opening credits for the season premiere of Heroes, but the psyched-ness was short-lived as he was shattered into a million teeny frozen bits by not-Niki.
I've been falling behind on a lot of non-essential reading, so I hadn't seen if this particular stunt casting was a surprise, or if anyone writing about TV today actually remembers The Greatest American Hero. I think people mostly still remember the show, as I did a half-assed job of dressing up as him for Halloween once a few years back, and at least half a dozen people started belting out the theme song as I went past.
Other premiere thoughts? I like the new speedster. Just when you think Mohinder can't become any more of a pretentious git, he gives himself superpowers. Not sure exactly what brought Nathan back, seeing as how Linderman (presumably) isn't real. I'm not sure what to make of not-Niki, and I suspect the explanation will be less than satisfying. Mrs. Petrelli was quality -- and maybe Sylar's mom? -- and I'm glad they offed Elle's dad. He was pretty annoying for a higher-up in such a powerful organization.
Future Peter vs. Present Peter (on the lam in Jesse's body) could shape up to be the best story arc so far, unless non-Niki's backstory is more compelling than I'm expecting.
